Lauren and Joal – Grand Rapids Wedding Photography

Posted on July 28, 2008

Lauren and Joal were married on July 5th in Hudsonville, MI at the Post Family Farm. I had heard of this vendor before and was so excited to photograph a wedding there. With the old barn, hay bales, and tractors, it was the perfect photography setting! Kai and I went to the same high school as the bride so it was fun for us to see many people that we hadn’t seen in quite a few years. This wedding was the perfect example of how rustic and simple can be beautiful.

In the morning, Kai took pictures of the girls getting their hair done at Fusion salon.

While waiting for Lauren and Joal to arrive at the Amway Grand, we hung out with our friend, Dave, who was in town for the Rothbury Festival. This was one of the highlights of our day.

Lauren and Joal arrived and we set off for the Gerald R. Ford Museum to take pictures.

Once we got to the farm, we took some more portraits.

I LOVED Lauren’s flowers.

… heading back to the barn. Of course all photography packages include a complimentary flower carrier – and as you can see, Lauren was quite the do-it-yourself bride.

A ring shot. Lauren and Joal had “semper fidelis” inscribed in their rings. This means “always faithful” in Latin and is the motto for the Marine Corps. This was so appropriate for them since Joal is in the Marines.

Let the ceremony begin! Post Family Farm has a gorgeous outdoor setting.

We like seeing old married couples at weddings. It’s such a great testament to the newlyweds.

Lauren and Joal used sparklers as their place cards. I thought it was so creative for a wedding the day after the 4th of July.

The Best Man’s speech.

Lauren and Joal’s first dance. There are times where the flash from another camera can be helpful instead of hurtful. This was one of those times.

The bridal party dance. We are photographing this couple’s wedding in Salzburg, Austria next year. Can’t wait!

After the formal dances, a couple of Joal’s relatives took to the dance floor.

A wide view of the reception. It was the perfect night!

At the end of the night, Lauren and Joal lit their sparklers and passed it on to the rest of their guests.

Lauren and Joal had such a beautiful wedding. Their style was so much like mine and Kai’s. With the awesome location, we had a great opportunity to take beautiful pictures. Along with the location, we also had perfect weather and more than enough time to get all the shots we wanted. They almost made it too easy for us!
Thanks for such a fun day, Lauren and Joal – and congratulations!!

Jen and Derek’s wedding proofs will be posted on Pictage.com by the end of the week!

Jen and Derek – Grand Rapids Wedding Photography

Posted on July 18, 2008

On June 28, Kai and I photographed Jen and Derek’s wedding. The ceremony took place at Orchard Hill Reformed Church and the reception was held at Blythefield Country Club. I had never met Jen and Derek before the wedding but Kai had already told me what a great couple they are. They absolutely lived up to Kai’s high praise. Due to their laid-back personalities, everything ran so smoothly. We stuck to the schedule and were able to accomplish everything with time to spare.

Jen had her hair done at Design One.

The note that accompanied the flowers Derek sent to Jen.
“I can’t wait to see you. I love you!”

… and how true that was. He couldn’t stop smiling when they first met.

Jen’s dress hanging in the entrance to the sanctuary. Look at those amazing flower arrangements!

The rings.

Derek finishing up his attire – almost ready to see Jen!

Their ringbearers were so adorable!

Husband and wife!

In the getaway limo – ready for some downtown picture taking.

At the blue bridge.

“Show me your best kung fu move!” We were not disappointed.

The bridal party.

The newly wed bride!

Such a sweet couple.

Right before the storm hit we drove out into the golf course. This picture was taken as the first rain drops fell – then it was a mad dash back to the club house!

After one of the most delicious meals we’ve ever had at a wedding, Jen and Derek had their first dance.

The rain cleared up in just enough time for some sunset photos.

Everyone seemed to be having such a great time dancing. Rick Reuther was the DJ – he does such a great job at getting people out on the floor!

The impending bad weather definitely didn’t dampen anyone’s mood at this wedding. Despite the wind that lasted most of the day and the rain that hit right before the reception, everyone involved was so cooperative. We had a great time at this wedding not only because we stayed on schedule and ate great food, but also because of the so in love, wonderful couple.
Congrats, Jen and Derek!

The final wedding pictures from Ingrid and Zeke’s wedding will be uploaded onto pictage tomorrow.
Can’t wait for you all to see the finished product!

Ingrid and Zeke – Grand Rapids Wedding Photography

Posted on July 10, 2008

On June 20, Kai and photographed Ingrid at Zeke’s wedding. The ceremony and reception both took place at the Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville. The entire wedding should be finished early next week – so keep looking for a link!

Ingrid got her make-up done at Design 1. The large windows allowed some much appreciated natural light. The artist did a beautiful job!

Here’s the groom!

I think this looks like a Backstreet Boys album cover – especially the sunglasses. How fitting.

Ingrid’s gorgeous flowers. This is one thing I love about spring weddings – peonies!

A portrait of Ingrid.

I took this picture of the bridesmaids admiring Ingrid while Kai took some portraits of her.

We went to Holland State Park to take pictures between the ceremony and reception per request of the bride and groom. This is the couple’s adorable daughter, Isabella, getting her feet sandy.

Just married!

And we’re off to the reception!

The first dance before Isabella ran onto the floor to join mom and dad.

This groomsman was so hilarious. He was joking around and having a great time …trying to act like he wasn’t the best dancer out there but I knew better. Check out these moves! (and that face. Is that a look of pain?)

They had such a beautiful day. Perfect for an outdoor ceremony and pictures at the beach. Congratulations Ingrid and Zeke!
The entire wedding will be posted on pictage.com as soon as they are completed.

Danielle and Chad – Grand Rapids Engagement Photography

Posted on July 8, 2008

I have another engagement session to post! Danielle and Chad are getting married on September 6.  Kai definitely enjoyed photographing them – they laughed a lot, were extremely relaxed, and he really could see the love that they share. What an adorable couple!
The pictures were taken in downtown Grand Rapids and at Hoffmaster State Park.

Danielle and Chad:

Congratulations Danielle and Chad – We’ll see you in September!
