Mandy and Luke – Grand Rapids Engagement Photography
Posted on July 8, 2008
Hey all! On June 11, Kai met Mandy and Luke at Townsend Park in Rockford for their engagement session. I was unable to attend but Kai told me they were very easy going and that he had a great experience photographing them. Their wedding is September 20th of this year and I can’t wait to work with them!
We picked out some pictures together to feature.
Here’s the couple!
Congratulations on your engagement Mandy and Luke!
Happy wedding planning!

Abby and Andy – Ludington Wedding Photography
Posted on July 3, 2008
Welcome Visitors! This is Kai here to write about Abby and Andy Brooks wedding on June 14. Abby and Andy were married in Ludington, MI. This wedding was extra fun to shoot because I spent summers there as a child. This is also where I proposed to Kayley and where we stayed for our honeymoon. Abby used to work at a Cottage Resort, Epworth Heights, located just North of Ludington. Andy is originally from England so there were many guests there from overseas, which was also really entertaining. It was such a fun mix of people to work with.
The ceremony was originally supposed to take place in the church at Epworth but the day before the event, Abby called and said there was a change of plans. Due to flooding, the church was unusable and they were going to be married in another church, Emanuel Lutheran Church, that was not affected by the flooding.
Some of Abby’s family live in Ludington and many of the items for the wedding were being stored in the basement. Unfortunately, the water found its way to some of these things and they needed to be re-made the day before the wedding.
Despite all of these issues, the wedding was a blast to photograph – and I was thankful to be working with such laid back clients!
The daily newspaper was sitting out while I took pictures of Andy getting ready. The headline says it all!

Here is a shot of Abby’s dress that I took while she was getting her hair done.

Here’s Abby quick finishing up her make-up before meeting Andy for the first time on their big day!

Here is a shot of Sean holding Rebecca’s shoes. I photographed their wedding last September in downtown Grand Rapids. It was great to work with them again!
Here’s the whole bridal party in front of their trolley. Perfect transportation for a city like Ludington.

Hard to be in Ludington and not make your way to the beach!

Even though the church was a last minute decision, I got some beautiful shots of Abby in front of the stained glass windows. We we blessed with some beautiful natural light so we took advantage of it!

The kind of people who make everyone around them smile!

Not sure what Andy was doing to make her laugh, but I saw this face ALL day.

This is a shot of a verse recited in their ceremony.

The ringbearer, Calvin, was quite a stud. He is Abby’s nephew. Both of his parents were also standing the wedding.

Pirates! They thought they would start off the reception with a bang, cannons and all. They were kind enough to raise England’s colors for the Groom.

The big storm held off until the reception when everyone was nice and dry inside.

I really enjoyed the song that Abby and Andy danced to. I know that it’s by the band “Travis”, but I couldn’t remember the title. Abby and Andy, a little help?

Hard to notice the weather outside with a group like this inside!

Despite the flooding, Abby and Andy remembered what was really important, their marriage! They were so easy going and fun to work with. They compliment each other so well and are quite the perfect couple!

Kristen and Jeff – Michigan Wedding Photography
Posted on July 2, 2008
Hey all! I’m back on this rainy day to post some pictures from the wedding on May 25.
My girlfriend from cosmetology school was the bride so this wedding was particularly fun for us to shoot since we knew a few of the guests. The ceremony and reception were held at Riverside Receptions in Centreville, MI. It was a beautiful day! It was sunny and warm with a little bit of a breeze – just perfect for an outdoor wedding.
Although these pictures have been completed for awhile, I am still going to post some. I’m a bit behind on this whole blogging thing, but I’ll catch up soon enough!
This is a picture of Kristen and her mom in the dressing room.
They were both so calm and ready to go! Such a wonderful family.

A great shot of the rings and flowers.
One thing I really loved about this wedding were the details. They didn’t leave anything overlooked! Kristen was the most organized bride. In fact, she had the wedding planned well before the event even took place.

I was taking pictures of Kristen getting ready while Kai took the portraits of the guys. It was so fun for me to see the finished products! This was one of my favorites – so serious! I thought this captured Jeff well since he really dislikes smiling for the camera.

We ended up taking pictures of the girls after the ceremony to allow for more “getting ready” time. Kai spotted a field across the street and we took portraits there before the reception. We’re both really happy with the way the colors turned out.

Here is a bridal portrait of Kristen taken in the field. She looked gorgeous (as expected) -and her dress was so flattering. It really showed off how teeny tiny she is.

We brought along a copy of their invitation and took pictures during some downtime. The green paper they used perfectly matched the bridesmaids dresses! They were so elegant. Remember what I said about Kristen’s attention to detail?

Just married! The ceremony was set outdoors along the river. It was beautiful and perfect for pictures!
Kai caught this picture at the perfect moment. Jeff snuck in a quick handshake with his dad while walking back down the aisle with his new bride!

I loved the table settings! Simple and beautiful. The breeze kept knocking the place cards down so we got creative and used their chocolate favors to keep them from blowing away!
The chocolate was so tasty – I ate mine before I even got dinner.

Time to party! Kristen and her friends had a great time dancing. The boys were a little shy but a couple of groomsmen got out there eventually.
It was such a gorgeous wedding. Kristen and Jeff are both wonderful people and deserve all the best in their future together.
Many thanks to the couple for giving us the privilege of capturing their day for them – we had a blast!
