Tess and Alex – Charlevoix Wedding Photography

This was our second backyard wedding of the season! Kai and I love backyard weddings because they are so personal and show the couple’s personalities so accurately. Tess and Alex had their wedding at Mt. McSauba beach about a half a mile away from Tess’ parent’s home where the reception was held.

The most appropriate word I can use to describe Tess and Alex is “joyful”. Their wedding day was completely full of smiling and laughter. Even their contagious laughter was mentioned a couple of times by their officiant during their wedding ceremony.

Tess and Alex chose the song “Lucky” by Jason Mraz for their first dance song - I could not have picked a better song for their relationship. The lyrics below describe them perfectly.

Tess and Alex’s rings were carried down the aisle in a copy of Tess’ favorite book, Pride and Prejudice.
There was a hole cut in the pages just the right size for their wedding rings.

Tess made her wedding cake. Talk about a talented bride!

Kristen Droste – Grand Rapids Portrait Photography

Recently I have been dreaming about styling my own photo shoot – so today I did just that!

While Kai was consumed with wedditing at home, I took my dear friend, Kristen, out for a mini portrait session.
Beforehand, I styled her hair, applied her make-up, raided her closet and hand-picked her outfit.
Then we headed downtown where I directed and shot her session.
We had a blast!
Kristen was the perfect model because 1. She’s totally gorgeous and 2. She is completely natural in front of the camera.

Thanks for the great day, Kristen, (including the Olive Garden soup, salad, and breadsticks!) and for being my guinea pig.
