Emily and Tyler – Grand Rapids Wedding Photography

Our first wedding of the season!

Emily and Tyler were married this past weekend at Emily’s uncle’s home on the Thornapple River. The couple of days leading up the wedding were nail biting as the weather forecasters were calling for rain, but at 8am Friday morning the call was made to move forward with the outdoor wedding … and I am SO glad they did. The setting could not have been more perfect. Emily and Tyler have waited 5 years for this day and I am sure it was everything they hoped for!

From a photography stand point, we also had a phenomenal day. The ceremony began at 6pm so even though Emily didn’t get her hair done (with me!) until 1pm, we still had plenty of time to get all the pre-ceremony shots finished. Everything ran on time and though there were moments of drizzle, Emily remained calm and happy. She has the most infectious smile and the atmosphere around the whole day reflected that.

Congratulations, Emily and Tyler – You deserve all the best!

Emily used to work at The Leslie Studio as a make up artist. It was only fitting that she would have her make up done there on her wedding day. This is also where I had my make up done for my wedding. (p.s. Mary is AMAZING.)

Emily wore her re-worked grandmother’s dress. The bodice is from the original dress but Emily added an organza layer along with appliqué flowers. The bow is made from the original skirt. The existing skirt is new. It is made of tulle and the top layer is a dotted swiss upholstery fabric. It was beautifully unique and fit her personality perfectly.

The bouquets were made up of hydrangea, white peonies, sand roses, and hypernicum berries. Emily’s bouquet was wrapped with the sleeve from her Grandmother’s wedding gown.

Emily and Tyler took dance lessons before the wedding and danced to the upbeat song, “Never Had Nobody Like You” by M. Ward featuring one of Emily’s favorite actresses and singers, Zooey Deschanel.

The sparklers for the send-off were the biggest I’ve ever seen! I heard they found them online. This was perfect for a send-off. I’ve seen sparklers done before but usually by the time the last sparkler is lit, half of them have already burned out. These remained lit for around 10 minutes, giving them more than enough time to make their way through the tunnel.
