Dana Vantongeren – Grand Rapids Portrait Photography

Posted on May 28, 2012

Last weekend we had the pleasure of meeting up with Dana and shooting her portrait session! Dana hasn’t had her pictures taken since she graduated from high school, and she felt it was time she had some updated portraits of herself. We thought this was a great idea! It’s never a bad time to invest in a portrait session so you can have images for both professional and personal use.

Because Dana recently moved to Chicago, scheduling the shoot was a bit of a challenge. We originally had to reschedule due to rain, so fortunately the weather on the day of this session was perfect! We love shooting portrait sessions, and Dana was the perfect model to break us in for the year. She’s easy going, natural, and (obviously) gorgeous! Thanks for giving us the opportunity to photograph you, Dana!

Betsy and Evan – Holland Wedding Photography

Posted on May 18, 2012

I have known Betsy’s family for the longest time. Our fathers were best friends way back in high school, and are still very close to this day. It was such a blast to photograph this event and spend time with people that I have known my entire life. I was honored to also help out with the hair the morning of the wedding. Sometimes it’s nice to get a break from my camera in the morning!

The day after their wedding, I updated my facebook status to “Photographing weddings is a breeze when the couple is as in love as Betsy and Evan”. These two are crazy about each other! They fell in love right a way and still feel as strongly as they did when they first started dating. It’s so inspiring to work with couples that are clearly so excited to be getting married.

Aside from working with people that I know so well, we were also really acquainted with the locations at this wedding. Betsy and Evan got married at Hardewyk Ministries in Holland, which is the same church that Kai and I got married at nearly five years ago. This was our first time back inside of the church and it felt like home!

Congratulations, Betsy and Evan! Enjoy the preview!

I don’t know how, but I feel sheltered in your love.

You’re where I belong.”

Cara and Michael – Grand Rapids Wedding Photography

Posted on May 15, 2012

Wow! I haven’t done a wedding blog post in so long I actually had to refer back to make sure I was doing the formatting correctly. Well, it’s spring now so you know what that means? Lots of wedding posts to come!

We kicked off our season this year with Cara and Michael’s wedding. They were married in late April, and were blessed with the most beautiful day! Considering Michigan’s track record, it could have been anywhere from freezing with snow to scorching hot but their day landed at a comfortable temperature right in between.

I am grateful that this wedding was our first of the year because it started us off on an awesome foot. We loved shooting this wedding! Cara and Michael are so easy going, and their families were so organized and helpful, it really made this day a joy for us.

Aside from the ease of the day, my favorite moment was pre ceremony pictures. When we first arrived at the location, we drove around to scope out potential photo locations so we were prepared when we took all of the portraits. We shot the bridesmaids and groomsmen in the places we picked out previously, but when it came to Cara and Michael, since they saw each other before the ceremony, we had enough time to improvise. When we rounded one side of the building across the street, we came upon the most unexpected setting. There was lush grass, large trees, and dandelion fluff floating through the air. It was gorgeous! It’s so inspiring and exciting to stumble upon these little oasis’ when shooting a wedding.

I hope you all enjoy recap of their day! Congratulations Cara and Michael!

Unexpected, sweet surprise.

With one hello, I’ll never be the same.”
